Deer Car Rental,

On night two, one of our crew had the misfortune of coming in contact with a deer. Luckily the Toyota van was only moving at 35 kph at the time. The deer apparently hit the ground, shook itself, and then ran off into the woods. The Toyota took the punishment and lasted without fault through to to the duration of the RAAM race. Thank god for car rental insurance.

Cookie Cabin

Sporting my new Arizona Cycling jersey, enjoying a fresh baked enormous cookie from the ladies at the Cookie Cabin.

Base of Mt. Lemmon

27 miles to the top. After mile one, for a split second you wonder what the hell you taken on. Then it passes. Mile 20 to 23 is a joy. However descending has got to be the biggest natural high.
Reaching speeds of 70 kph on a twisting slope. Pure joy.

Mt. Lemmon Climb

To all avid cyclists, make sure you put this on your bucket list. My good friends Ultan & Philippe and I climbed Mt. Lemmon back to back along with every pure roadie in Tucson. I learned from Ryan at the Arizona Cycle that Lance Armstrong and US Postal used Mt. Lemmon as a training ground. On the second morning around mile 16 a "Pro" past me. apparently it was his second time up the mountain that morning. To the ladies at the "Cookie Cabin" at the top of Mt. Lemmon thank you for your wonderful hospitality. I will be back.
